Brion Gysin is credited with really developing the idea, but William S. Burroughs took it to the extreme and popularized it. Basically he would type a page, cut individual sentences and words out with a razor, toss the shreds in a fishbowl, and rearrange the jumbled pieces in a new cohesive order.
I thought I might attempt it with tape. I recorded a very rhythmic and repetitive piano song to 1/4 tape and proceeded to destroy it with a razor and rearrange the pieces. It was the most fun I have ever had in the studio.
And a big Thank You to John Buscarino for engineering the recording. Without his help, this project would have not been realized.
